Brian Williams feels that Donald Trump had Kevin McCarthy ‘at hi’ when they got together at Mar-a-Lago. His ‘selective’ video of their gathering? A clasp from ‘Jerry Maguire’!
MSNBC’s Brian Williams expertly savaged Donald Trump on The eleventh Hour, deriding the previous president’s gathering with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) at Mar-a-Lago. Williams guaranteed his visitors that he had “restrictive” video from the gathering, just to “incidentally” roll a clasp from the 1996 film Jerry Maguire. Indeed, the “you had me at hi” scene.
Trump’s Save America political activity council said in a public statement on Thursday, instantly before The eleventh Hour broadcasted, that Trump had swore to help McCarthy and the GOP recapture control of the House of Representatives in 2022. The PAC said that Trump and McCarthy had a “generally excellent and cheerful gathering” at Mar-a-Lago. Williams’ suggestion with the Jerry Maguire cut was that Trump and McCarthy invested their energy pronouncing their affection for each other like Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger‘s characters.
Subsequent to watching the enthusiastic “you complete me, you had me at hi” scene, Williams deadpanned, “Clearly we have rolled some unacceptable clasp. I thought this would have been of the McCarthy and Trump meeting and somebody’s going to be, obviously, in large difficulty.” His visitors, moderate intellectual Bill Kristol and jokester Baratunde Thurston, couldn’t quit chuckling. Thurston couldn’t address a followup question since he was “all the while recuperating” from the clasp. “I’m frantic at you right now for making me break so a lot,” he told Williams.
Williams is probably the staunchest pundit. Williams used to start each scene of The eleventh Hour by demonstrating the measure of time Trump had been president and the days until the 2020 political decision. It was a to and fro. Trump called Williams “stupid as damnation” on Twitter in April 2020 and said that he “wouldn’t have the foggiest idea about reality in the event that it was nailed to his wooden brow” — apparently on the grounds that Williams had condemned his reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic on his show.
